The Professor – Priest

ProfessorIn the first edition of ‘The Professor’, we will be looking at the Priest class in general. This is to allow players to get accustomed to the general gameplay of Hearthstone before we delve deeper!

The Priest deck is apparently a very popular deck; it is seen in all four of the semi-finalists’ decks in the recently concluded Hearthstone Innkeeper’s Invitational. Its popularity lies in its ability to control the field.

Hero Power:

  • Lesser Heal: Restores 2 Health
  • Mind Spike: Deals 2 Damage (Upon Using Shadowform)
  • Mind Shatter: Deals 3 Damage (Upon Using Shadowform for a Second Time)

Its hero power has a diverse use, reflecting its holy and shadow sides.

Generally, a priest has a strong kit that allows its minions to survive against all odds with its numerous buffs and heals.

Defense:

  • Power Word: Shield
  • Inner Fire

It also has a dark side where enemy minions can be picked off instantly, or opposing players can be directly targeted.

Offense:

  • Shadow Word: Pain
  • Auchenai Soulpriest
  • Mind Blast

Finally, the Priest pays its respect to the ‘Random Number Generator’ (RNG) gods with its use of mind-reading, which also allows an unparalleled form of control. The ‘Mind Control’ card was such a game-changer that it will be nerfed in a future patch with a 10 mana cost!

Mind Reading:

  • Thoughtsteal
  • Mind Control
  • Shadow Madness

All-in-all, the Priest deck is a slower-paced deck that gets stronger as the game goes; it relies on defensive minions and spells to sustain board control, before prevailing in the late game with its wide arsenal.
